Game 4 Report

Tonight was a long game. We actually almost ran out of daylight. Funny how innings tend to last longer when you score some runs. Unfortunately, the other team scored a lot of runs too.. Offensively, this was our best game yet. Patience at the plate and aggressive running on the base paths are starting to pay off. We started out a little slow in the first inning, but Jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the second. Of course, in the bottom of the first we surrendered that lead by giving up 7 runs (at least 4 of them unearned). We kept it pretty close through the next couple of innings and even thought we briefly got the lead back in the 5 - which we then immediately surrendered on several unearned runs again. All in all, it was a fun game, and a significant improvement over our first three games. We're starting to put it all together - One of these days we are going to win one. Final score 22-19.

Highlights:

- Jason was 4-5, hit for the cycle (including our first ever Home Run), scored three runs and had 8 RBI
- Damian was 3 for 4 with a walk, 4 runs scored and an RBI
- Just about everybody was hitting better. 8 of our ten guys batted over .500.

Game 3 Report

Tonight we started out slow - Little or no offense through the first three innings while surrendering 5 runs to the other team. In the fourth inning, we turned it around, holding them scoreless and scoring 3 ourselves to pull the score to 5-3. We kept it close til the end, and entered the bottom of the 7th with a relatively manageable 11-7 deficit. We started out the inning with 3 consecutive base hits and quickly plated all three to close the gap to 11-10. Unfortunately, the late rally fizzled out with a couple of quick outs. Overall, this was the best game we have played so far - a little frustrating because we all left with the feeling that we really should have won.

Highlights from the game:

- Arik finally pulled out of his slump, going 3-4 with an RBI
- Damian as usual was good, going 3-3 with a run scored and 2 RBI
- Ethan copied his brother and also went 3-4, scoring every time he was on base.
- And of course, Luke extended his perfect streak, going 1-1 with 2 RBI. If you're paying attention, Luke is batting 1.000 on the season.

Game 2 Report

Well, Game 2 was a bit of a mixed bag. The final score was 30-3 agianst probably the best team in the division. On the negative side, we had a few fielding errors that led to a couple of big innings (7 runs in the 3rd and 14 runs in the 6th). On the plus side, we played them pretty well for the other 5 innings. Once again, our bats were pretty quiet. However, if we can improve the batting and stay away from the big innings, we should be right where we need to be.

Offensive Highlights:
- Luke Brunson was 2 for 2 with 1 RBI
- Damian Watson was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a Run scored, and our only extra-base hit of the whole game.

Defensive Highlights:
- Beautiful diving catch of a hard line drive by Vance Bullard at 1B
- On a ball that looked to be well over the outfielders head and certain to be a sure home run, Jason tracked it down and snagged it for the out.

Game 1 Report

Well, game 1 is in the books. For those who weren’t there, the Final score was Danville 16, CBC 6. It didn’t go exactly as we had hoped, and we found a few things that we need to work on, but I had fun and I hope you guys did too. This was the Danville coach’s report on our first game (I agree with it, so I didn't bother writing my own):

“CBC traveled to Danville Thursday night for the Danville Baptist home opener and CBC's inaugural game in the SCSU. CBC jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first and held Danville scoreless with some flashy D in the bottom of the first. Danville's bats responded with 4 in the second, and 2 in the third while holding CBC scoreless through innings 2 and 3. Danville scored 5 in the 5th with long homeruns from 3B Ernie and LF Wayne Dinsmore. Danville was able to hold off numerous rally's from CBC with solid defense. Offensive starts of the night for CBC were leadoff man Jason R. 3 for 4 with a run scored and Damian W. 2 for 3. Offensive stars for Danville, Coach John E. went 3 for 3 with an RBI, LF Wayne D. 2 for 4 with 3 RBI's with a towering moonshot to right and LC Phil C. was 4-4 with 3 RBI's

Highlight reel: Neal Mathews ringing up Lou with a called 3rd strike in the 6th inning from CBC pitcher Damian. Lou gotta get the bat off the shoulder!

Great fellowship throughout, Danville was blessed to meet our brothers from CBC and look forward to seeing them again this season!.”

Highlights for CBC:

- Jason R with a 4 for 4 performance, 3 singles a triple and a run scored (our scorebook shows a slight discrepancy on one of his hits).
- Damian W going 2 for 3 with a run scored
- Rich B going 2 for 3 with 3 RBI
- Jamie “gold glove” B finding out 10 minutes before the game that he was going to be at 2B despite playing outfield almost exclusively in practice and subsequently turning in a very solid performance.
